Hollywood megastar and racing superfan Brad Pitt has set his eyes on the world of Formula 1<\/a>. Not for a wild change in career direction, but to bring it to life on the big screen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pitt, known for his roles in Fight Club<\/em>, Seven and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, is no secret motorsport fan. He’s attended Grands Prix in the past, has narrated a MotoGP documentary, and has been the official starter of the 24 Hours of Le Mans<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, it has been revealed he plans to bring a fictitious story about motor racing to the cinema. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the likes of Talladega Nights, Rush <\/em>and Le Mans ’66<\/em>, it’s likely all the stops will be pulled out to make the project a smash hit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what do we know about the film already? Here’s a round-up of what’s been revealed so far, and what we can expect so see when it’s released. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s the plot?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

According to The Sun<\/a>, the plot of the film will revolve around a retired driver who returns to racing in a bid to aid a younger team-mate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If that sounds familiar, you\u2019ve probably seen the \u2013 pretty terrible – 2001 film, Driven<\/em><\/a>. The movie told the story of Jimmy Bly, a champ car rookie who is helped to title glory by Joe Tanto (played by Sylvester Stallone), a former champion persuaded to come out of retirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plot is also reminiscent of the ‘Braking Zone’ story told in the recent F1 2021<\/em> console game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who will star in the film?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It seems a pretty nailed on fact that Brad Pitt will star as the driver who comes out of retirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pitt, currently aged 58, is around three years older than the eldest F1 driver in history, Louis Chiron, who was 55 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There have also been rumours that Lewis Hamilton will be involved in the project. This could be in a producing or consulting role, but Hamilton has previous as an actor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The world champion has made cameos in Cars 2 <\/em>and 3<\/em>, Zoolander 2 <\/em>and even popped up as a character in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare<\/em><\/a>. And that\u2019s not to mention the countless adverts<\/a> he\u2019s tested his acting chops in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where will I be able to watch it?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Motorsport films and documentaries have proved huge successes on the big and small screen recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rush<\/em>, which starred Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl as James Hunt and Niki Lauda, was a major hit grossing almost $100million at the box office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Netflix\u2019s Drive to Survive<\/em> documentary on Formula 1 is approaching its fourth series, with Amazon announcing an exclusive series documenting the 2021 MotoGP season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But if reports are to be believed<\/a>, it looks as if Apple TV is set to join the party. They are the supposed front runners for this latest film project, and will produce the film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apple received great acclaim for its football series Ted Lasso<\/em>, and will be hoping for similar results if it were to venture into the world of fictitious motorsport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When will the film be released?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Not for a very long time. With no confirmation of producers, directors or cast, it\u2019s unlikely the film will go into production for a while.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It might be worth keeping an eye out for crews at Grands Prix in 2022, however. If filming were to begin, it\u2019s possible producers would be keen to film at a race event.
