As the DTM season begins to heat up, Nuremberg hosts the only street race at the mid-point of the calendar. The Norisring may look like a simple track, but like any street race, it’s one only the best can master. A short 2.3km circuit with just eight turns will be lapped in under 50 seconds, but that doesn’t mean the race won’t be action-packed.
In 2021, the track held the finale of the season which led to hugely controversial clashes with title implications. The run from the start-line to turn one is a frenzied high-speed dash as cars jostle for position into the opening hairpin. This is a huge action zone, and is overlooked by the large Alpha Tribune.
The only German race in the Bavaria region – known for its 160+ beer breweries – the race takes place just outside the centre of Nuremberg. In contrast to the DTM’s other races at remote race tracks, the race at Norisring takes place in a public park beside the picturesque Dutzendteich lake and vast Zeppelin field where fans can explore and encounter cars, engineers and drivers before the race.
