The stylish and cosmopolitan Melbourne is the coastal capital of Victoria and Australia’s second largest city. Situated on the southern coast of Australia’s eastern seaboard, Melbourne is located on a coastal plain at the top of Port Phillip Bay which also functions as the mouth of the mighty Yarra River.

Activités et visites

Melbourne is a cultural hub, and has plenty to offer outside of the on-track action.

Visit the Royal Botanical Gardens – spread over 94 acres and featuring more than 8,500 species of plants from around the world, the Melbourne Gardens are a perfect place to take a stroll in beautiful surroundings.

Hosier Lane is a historic street that is famous on the Melbourne graffiti scene, offering traditional graffiti, stencils and art installations. This is a must see for art fans; you can either wander the streets and take the extraordinary art in at your own pace, or book a specialised tour to gain a deeper insight into the area.

The National Gallery of Victoria is home to more than 70,000 works of art. The extensive collection of work includes Picasso’s Weeping Woman and Rembrandt’s self-portrait.

A trip to the renownedSt Kilda Pier is a must to take in a fantastic view of the Melbourne skyline, particularly at sunset. The breakwater which protects the harbour of St.Kilda is also home to a colony of penguins; visit at dusk for the best chance to catch a glimpse of them!

Météo

March is the start of autumn in Melbourne but average daily temperatures are around 19°C with an average high of 24°C so we would recommend bringing a light jacket or jumper with you, especially for the chillier evenings. Although not particularly frequent, please note that there is usually some rainfall in March. We would always recommend checking the weather before you head out in the morning to ensure you are adequately prepared!
