Description

In order to add adrenaline to the longest straight of the circuit, a chicane has been built in to divide the emblematic Mistral straight. The Chicane grandstands will offer a sweeping view of this exciting area, where you might see overstakings and cars zooming by at full speed.

Section 1 of the grandstand will be dedicated to the Bronze area, overlooking the first turn of the chicane, and the second half of the Mistral Straight.

Great to see a French Grandprix

Travel from Aix en Provence was poor, but all the other aspects of the Grand Prix racing were ok, except for internal transport which was hopeless. New bus terminus great idea but executed poorly. No water down of dust and no seating, shade, walkways uneven and actually dangerous.

Still some kinks to work out

From what I read last year to what I saw this year, race organizers made a lot of improvements, especially around parking and traffic flow. These two aspects were run very well. However, some aspects need improvement. For example, there was ample food stalls and merchandise in the chicane area, but over in the fan zone, the line-ups for food stalls on race day were incredibly long. Bathroom facilities were plentiful and clean. All in all, with the location and the dry and dusty surroundings, this race best suits those who wish to camp nearby. We stayed at a beautiful villa in the wine region just a short drive away, so getting there was fine. But once at the track, the blowing sand made for a less than ideal atmosphere.

We had an amazing weekend

We had an amazing weekend. We were camping in our motorhome with F1 Camping. Had we have been travelling in daily I know we would have had a completely different experience. We spoke to a great many people who just spent hours in the car parks and in ques. So I dont think we would be going to France again unless with the motorhome.

Good booking, Fun race, bad parking/traffic

BookF1 was great for ticket purchase support. The event itself was great, the circuit is very good. But the lines were long for food and beer. Parking and traffic were not very organized or supported by local authorities. Despite leaving before the race was over, it took 3 hours to get 30 km back to my hotel. Anticipate long waits in traffic after the race

Good race shame about the traffic

Overall we had good tickets in the chicane and we enjoyed the action in the race. Inside the circuit you had to que for drinks etc but not too bad. However, due to the aweful traffic we wasted a trip on Friday as we couldn’t make a it to the circuit due to the traffic. On Saturday and Sunday it took 2.1/2 hours to get in which wasn’t the worst but leaving the car park after qualifying and the particularly the race we que’d for hours to get off the car park. As we had to be up early to get in and we’re only back very late at night it was very tiring and put a dampener on the whole weekend.

Amazing experience spoiled by traffic chaos

Our first grand prix experience was interesting to say the least. Having been 10 minutes away from the track on friday morning and setting off in plenty of time, we were then routed (by the police) to a diversion which ended up being a 10 mile traffic gridlock for 3 hours! My son became quite upset when we realised we were going to miss the first practice session and possibly not make it at all. I find this hard to believe this could happen, the police were quite clearly routing everyone one way which just added to the issues. This didnt improve as on departure the road was gridlocked once again so quite a few thousand people were ‘stuck’ in the car park for 2 hours. We had decided by this point that on saturday we would need to set off 5 or 6 hours before practice 2 (our journey from our apartment was only 23km away ) By the time we left the circuit on saturday teatime to return to our car it was very clear that the traffice issues were even worse, this time we had 3 and a half hours gridlocked in the car park unable to move because the main road couldnt cope with the volume of traffic. We arrived back at our apartment at 11pm, By sunday we knew that we had to arrive very early to avoid traffice again, this went smoothly. By the time we left the curcuit after the race on sunday we knew we would have a longer wait, we expecetd it due to it being race day, this turned into a 4 hour journey back to our apartment 23km away. Car parking voucher This car parking voucher was not once, other people were parking in there for free as they knew nobody was checking due to the traffic chaos. I feel we have totally wasted our money and wish to persue a refund on our 3 day parking ticket cost, I would much appreciate if you could arrange to resolve this on our behalf.

Good experience overall, spoilt by traffic

We had good value-for-money seats in Bronze stand at Mistral chicane (turn 8/9). Saw a fair amount of overtaking, had screens ahead of us, and adequate facilities around. Worth taking a walk across the very nearby Rolex bridge to other side of circuit for merchandise and the fanzone (simulator fun for my boys but long queues...). The parking was a complete shambles, cars arriving and leaving from every direction, and the final insult was we managed to bolt fairly quickly after the race, had a parking strategically close to the parking exit, so were very quickly out of there....and then got immediately snarled up as everyone headed out....took an hour to get out past Cuges le Pins....and when we drove through discovered only 2 reasons for that snarl-up...a goatherd with 20+ stray goats halfway down the road to Cuges, with everyone slowing to walking pace. And then 2 over-officious gendarmerie, slowing cars into Cuges and letting in every single vehicle wanting to cut in from a stray intersection (1 or 2 vs 1000 up the hill!!). There was NO regard given to proper flow of traffic to override the existinf road system. Once we were through Cuges, it all was free all the way to our lodging in Aix. To fix this you would need a management change in France. In which case I would recommend the GP and venue. But if not, avoid!!! Oh, and we had our Easyjet flight to Marseilles on the Saturday morning cancelled on the Friday due to air traffic control strike. So we incurred E3500 flights for 4 of us to arrive from Amsterdam via Munich on Friday eve. Again, if the GP was somewhere else, I might be able to recommend it....

Traffic needs organising!

For the first GP in 28yrs Circuit Paul Ricard did a good job at the track. We were disappointed though that our 3-day seated tickets didn’t allow us into other stands on the Friday & Saturday like other tracks. The car parks were really disorganised and leaving the track on all 3 days was an absolute nightmare! On 2 of the days we sat there until 10pm with no one giving any information about what was happening. We appreciate that the track location does not help but the way the car parks were organised could be much improved. There were no stores/stalls selling Paul Ricard merchandise. They missed a trick there!
