Brno is the Czech Republic’s second largest city, and the historical capital city of the Margraviate of Moravia. Resting at the confluence of the rivers Svitava and Svratka, Brno is an idyllic place to lose yourselves. Settlements in this region date back to the 11th Century, affording the area a rich and varied history. The architecture of the city demonstrates the varied past, with the Baroque-style Cathedral of St Peter and Paul juxtaposing the high-rise modern buildings in the city centre.
From shopping, to eclectic hanging sculptures, an astronomical clock and beautiful palaces, a visit to Brno during your travels to the Czech MotoGP is going to be entertaining for all. Explore the legends of this city, walk down the cobbled streets, or simply enjoy one of the famous Czech beers and delicious food, before – or after – the race weekend.
Brno Circuit is situated approximately 16km from the Brno City centre. The nearest airport to the circuit is Brno-Turany Airport which is around 20km from the circuit. Alternatively you can fly into Prague (200km away) or Vienna (150Km).
There is a bus from the Brno-Turany Airport to Brno city centre every 20-30 minutes and there are also good bus connections from Prague.
If the way to a person’s heart is through their stomach, then the Czech Republic has a number of ways to get there, and Brno is one of the greatest places to experience it. But gastronomy isn’t where it starts or ends in Brno.
Known for its many legends and sinewy streets, with gorgeous architecture, Brno is a great place to take a walk through. Try to find the Brno dragon at Town Hall, or stand in front of the curious astronomical clock, which releases marbles once a day. Take your pick from the many historical villas and castles to visit, or walk the pedestrian cobbled streets in the town centre for some window shopping.
Brno boasts a very attractive climate in the summer months, with an average of 25 degrees centigrade, and an all time high of 35 degrees centigrade. Rainfall is typically very low in August and Brno has very high air quality due to natural circulation.
