Formula 1 calendar: When is the next F1 Grand Prix, full calendar and standings

Formula 1 is a truly global sport. Its calendar of 23 races stretches the majority of the year, and in 2021, will be hosted in 21 countries across five continents. As the season starts, the races come thick and fast at some of the world’s most incredible racetracks.

But with so many races, It can be tricky keeping up with where the sport is racing when.

Formula 1 usually publishes its provisional calendar well in advance of a new season before confirming it weeks later. This not only gives teams and drivers the opportunities to get ready to go racing, but for fans to plan which races they can attend in any given season.

This year’s season got underway in Bahrain on 28^th March. The series will then move into Europe for many months. From September, Formula 1 will race in Russia, then Asia for the Singapore and Japanese Grands Prix. It will then move to the Americas, for the United States, Mexican and Brazilian races. Having been postponed from March, the Australian Grand Prix – normally the first race of the season, will take place in November. Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi will host the final two rounds.

When is the next Formula 1 race?

The next Formula 1 race is the Turkish Grand Prix which will take place at the Istanbul Park Circuit on 10 October. The free practice sessions will begin on 8 October, with qualifying for the race on Saturday 9 October.

Are fans permitted to F1 races in 2021?

This season, Formula 1 fans have been able to return to grandstands to watch races live. Grandstands were full for both Austrian races, plus the British and Hungarian Grands Prix.

Fans will be at the remaining European races in Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and Turkey, plus the Mexican and United States Grands Prix later in the year. Tickets are also on sale for the Saudi Arabian and Abu Dhabi Formula 1 races at the end of the year.

What are the new races on the Formula 1 calendar?

The Dutch Grand Prix will be returning to Formula 1 in 2021 for the first time in 30 years. It was due to make a comeback in the previous season before the race was postponed during the pandemic. The race has been moved from late spring to late summer to enhance the chances of more fans being permitted to the race.

Saudi Arabia will be hosting a race for the very first time. A circuit will be set up around the streets of Jeddah, which is an hour’s drive from Mecca. The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix will be the penultimate race of the season in December.

Are there many other changes to the F1 calendar in 2021?

Having become the traditional opening race in Formula 1 for many years, the Australian Grand Prix will have a different feel to it in 2021. After the fiasco of the race cancellation minutes before sessions began in 2020, the race will go ahead in November.

Two new additions are stepping in to host races after successful events in 2020. Imola and Portimao were drafted in to bolster the COVID-affected season in 2020 and will be hosting two early rounds this season. It has also been announced that there will be two races in Austria in June, with the Styrian Grand Prix on 27th June.
