MotoGP returns to pulsating Brazil after 22 years away
Why go to the MotoGP Brazilian Grand Prix?
The 2026 MotoGP calendar reveal brought the thrilling news that the premier class of motorcycle racing will return to Brazil for the first time in 22 years.
Replacing Argentina on the 2026 calendar, the Brazilian Grand Prix will take up the mantle of being South America’s sole MotoGP race. The Jacarepagua circuit near Rio de Janeiro hosted a race from 1995-2004 with legendary Italian racer Valentino Rossi picking up four premier class wins across MotoGP and the proceeding 500cc class.
Now MotoGP returns to the Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna, commonly known as Goiania, after a huge 37 years away – the circuit hosted three races across 1987-1989. Goiania itself is a short, sharp and flowing circuit, its 11 corners are connected by a near 1km long pit straight with a fast and overtaking-prominent turn 1 akin to Qatar.
The circuit resides next to the city of Goiania which is one of Brazil's largest central cities and around 100 miles from the federal capital Brasília.
