Why go to the 2024 Australian F1 Grand Prix?

The Australian Grand Prix returned in 2022 after two years of being called off due to Covid. The news was received with jubilation by Australian motorsport fans who filled the many grandstands at the Albert Park circuit in record numbers. Not only was it the first chance for these fans to see F1 racing in three years, but they got an early glimpse of the new generation of cars. Coupled with the newly profiled circuit, with multiple changes designed to make overtaking easier, produced an excellent race. Charles Leclerc roared to his first ever win Down Under that year, while in 2023, Max Verstappen did the same in front of a record crowd of 444,631.

In recent years Daniel Ricciardo has been the poster boy for Australian Formula 1. In the 2023 edition of his home race, Ricciardo was absent from the grid line-up. However, midway through this season, a surprise move by AlphaTauri saw the cheeky Aussie back behind the wheel.

As things stand, he will be going up against countryman Oscar Piastri in 2024, giving the home crowd with their first opportunity to cheer on two Australian drivers for the first time since 2013.

It won’t just be Formula 1 in action, as some of Australia’s most exciting race series take to the track from Thursday all the way up to race day Sunday. VHT Australian S5000 Championship, Supercars, Porsche Carrera Cup Australia and a number of Historics will hitting the tarmac, as will the RAAF with an incredible air display in the air.

There are few cities to match Melbourne when it comes to beaches, surfing and wildlife tourism too. March in Melbourne averages around 25 degrees, offering the perfect chance for a bit of pre-summer sun for visitors from the Northern Hemisphere.
