Australia
Since its first Australian Grand Prix in 1989, Philip Island has held a special place in the hearts of MotoGP fans. Just south of Melbourne, Victoria, the Philip Island Circuit has proved one of the most exciting places to go racing for riders and fans alike.
The looping circuit is a demanding one. A series of long corners taken at high speeds flow one after another, exerting huge pressures on the riders throughout the race. Tyre temperature is all-important in MotoGP, and this track heats up the rubber to its highest levels all year, providing an extra technical element to managing the race here. Aussie World Champion was a favourite here, winning in front of his home crown in six consecutive seasons from 2007. In 2021, Moto2 and Moto3 will also be taking to the circuit, as the stars of tomorrow look to make their mark.
After the race, the cosmopolitan city of Melbourne is a short drive away. Discover Australia’s unique wildlife like the penguins at Sutherland Beach, or Philip Island’s own Koala Conservation Centre. If you’d rather keep the adrenaline pumping between race sessions, the island is a popular surfing hotspot with near-perfect conditions against a stunning backdrop.
