Hungarian Grand Prix: Grandstand guide to the Formula 1 race at the Hungaroring

The Hungarian Grand Prix is the final F1 race right before the summer break. As such, there’s a huge demand for tickets as fans yearn for a glimpse of the action as the European season enters its final stretch.

But the Hungaroring is also one of the classic circuits on the F1 calendar. Having been a staple track on the calendar since the mid-80s, fans love watching cars take on this challenging circuit while enjoying all Budapest has to offer.

Best grandstands at the Hungaroring for the Hungarian Grand Prix

Gold 1, Gold 2 and Super Gold

As ever, the start-finish straight is one of the most exciting places to sit to watch the race. At Gold 1 and 2 you’ll feel the buzz begin to build as the cars take to the grid. Luckily for Red Bull, there weren’t fans in the stands in 2020 when they were forced to work on Max Verstappen’s car under huge pressure after he crashed on his way to the grid. You’ll see the cars be prepared and get ready for the race, as well as the chequered flag moment at the end of the race. It does get hot during the Hungarian Grand Prix race weekend, and Gold 1 and 2 grandstands are uncovered. However, Super Gold is the prime grandstand at the track, and is covered to offer respite from the sunshine. Super Gold does not overlook the grid, like Gold 1 and 2, but the seats are higher so you can catch more of the track, and it’s right next to the Fan Zone, where you’ll find food and drink.

Gold 3 and 4

Turn 1 is one of the best opening corners in Formula 1. After a long straightaway to start the race, the cars approach a wide and flowing hairpin where they will jockey for position. These two grandstands overlook turn 1, and are located on the outside of the straight in line with the braking zone. This is a great place to watch any first lap carnage unfold, and will be a key overtaking point throughout the race, as it marks the end of a DRS zone.

Bronze 1 and 2

Further along the lap, Bronze 1 and 2 grandstands overlook the fast paces chicane at turn 6 and 7. The cars will appear around the sweeping bend at turn 5 before taking on this sharp change in direction. It’s unlikely you’ll catch an overtake in this section of the track, but witnessing the control the drivers have through here at phenomenal speeds is a sight to behold. It will be around a 10-15 minute walk to the Fan Zone, but there will be food and drink stalls around to keep you fuelled during the sessions.

Silver 5

Silver 5 is a remote grandstand located on the outside of the straight between turns 10 and 11. If a driver can maintain enough speed through the winding section from turn 7 to 10, and stay close to the car ahead, you might see a spectacular pass here. The stand itself is nestled between the general admission zones, so the atmosphere will undoubtedly be electric. The cars will pass this stand at high speed, and you’ll be able to see the final sequence of corners in the distance.

Silver 3 and 6

Silver 3 and 6 Grandstands line the final corner at the Hungaroring, which is an important one. The drivers need to ensure a great exit with maximum traction so that they can hit their top speed on the straight. We’ve also seen a cheeky overtake performed here in the past, so it’s a great spot to catch the action. You’ll also be able to look down the straight, and may be able to catch any passes that are made along it.

Silver 1, 2, 4 and Red Bull Grandstands

These grandstands are all close to each other at the start of the main straight. You’ll have a decent view of the grid and podium celebrations, and see the cars beginning to pick up the speed on the straight. Silver 4 is elevated, behind the other three stands. This gives it a better view across multiple corners in the final sector of the lap, and is recommended. These stands are also close to the F1 Fan Zone, so a short walk to food, drink and entertainment throughout the weekend.
