🗺️ Getting to Balaton Park

Balaton Park is further outside Budapest then it’s Formula 1 hosting counterpart, the Hungaroring. The MotoGP circuit sits around 100km southwest of the city.

There are various options when it comes to reaching Balaton Park from the Hungarian capital. Driving takes around 1 hour 15 minutes – but that is not factoring in race day traffic. That time could feasibly double during the rush of a Grand Prix weekend.

🚌 Free Shuttle Bus (Budapest to Balaton Park)

The MotoGP Express – on Saturday and Sunday mornings – departs from Budapest-Kelenföld to Csajág, free of charge for all fans with a valid entry ticket. From Csajág, visitors will be transported to the circuit and back by complimentary electric shuttle buses.

Connections are also available from both the southern and northern shores of Lake Balaton, with multiple departure times.

🚆 Train to Balaton Park Circuit

Taking the train from Budapest towards Lake Balaton is a comfortable and affordable option, with frequent services along the southern shore. You’ll typically travel to a nearby station such as Balatonakarattya or Balatonfőkajár, then complete the final stretch by taxi.

  • Estimated cost: €5–€15 (2,000–6,000 HUF)
  • Travel time: ~1–1.5 hours (plus ~10–15 min taxi to the circuit)
  • Routes: Direct trains from Budapest Déli or Kelenföld stations
  • Operator: MÁV (Hungarian State Railways)
  • Tolls: Not applicable — included in your ticket
  • Best for: Comfort, reliability, and avoiding traffic
  • Last mile: Short taxi ride needed from the nearest station

MÁV+ is the national transport operator and you can plan your trip on their website.

👉 Tip: Trains can get busy during race weekend, so booking in advance is recommended for a guaranteed seat

🚗 Getting to Balaton Park by car

Driving takes around 1 hour 15 minutes – but that is not factoring in race day traffic. That time could feasibly double during the rush of a Grand Prix weekend.

Toll Costs (Hungary)

Driving from Budapest to Balaton Park Circuit via the M7 requires a motorway vignette rather than paying per toll. This is a time-based pass linked to your license plate, and you only need to buy it once for the duration of your trip.

  • 1-day vignette: ~5,550 HUF (£12.50)
  • 10-day vignette (recommended): ~6,900 HUF (£15.50)
  • Monthly vignette: ~11,170 HUF (£24.90)
  • No toll booths: one payment covers the full route
  • Buy before driving on the motorway (or shortly after entering)
  • Applies to standard cars (D1 category)

🅿️ Parking at Balaton Park Circuit

Parking is available at Balaton Park Circuit, making driving a convenient option if you want maximum flexibility. However, availability and organisation can vary during major events.

  • Estimated cost: Often free or low-cost (may vary by event)
  • Distance to circuit: Typically within walking distance from designated car parks
  • Availability: Can fill up quickly on race weekends
  • Traffic: Expect congestion before and after sessions
  • Best for: Flexibility and groups travelling together
  • Alternative: Park in nearby towns and take a taxi to avoid delays

👉 Tip: Arrive early to secure a good spot and minimise traffic when leaving the circuit

🚖 Taxi to Balaton Park Circuit

Taking a taxi is in many ways a simpler option from Budapest to Balaton Park than driving yourself. The driver will handle motorway access, including the vignette, so you don’t need to worry about tolls or permits.

  • Estimated cost: €80–€130 (30,000–50,000 HUF), depending on demand and time of day
  • Travel time: ~1 hour 15 minutes
  • Tolls included: vignette costs are covered by the driver/company
  • Best for: groups (cost can be shared) or hassle-free travel
  • Book via apps: Bolt or local taxi companies for fixed pricing
  • Expect surge pricing during major events (e.g. race weekends)

👉 Tip: Pre-booking is recommended around big events to avoid long waits or higher prices

🚎 Bus to Balaton Park Circuit

Taking the bus is the most budget-friendly way to travel from Budapest to the Balaton area, though it usually requires a short taxi or shuttle bus ride at the end to reach the circuit.

  • Estimated cost: €5–€10 (2,000–4,000 HUF)
  • Travel time: ~1.5–2 hours (plus ~10–15 min taxi to the circuit)
  • Routes: Direct buses run from Budapest to nearby towns like Balatonfőkajár or Balatonakarattya
  • Tolls included: no extra cost — included in the ticket price
  • Best for: solo travellers or those on a budget
  • Frequency: Regular departures, but less frequent late at night
  • Last mile: Expect to take a short taxi from the nearest stop to the circuit

MÁV+ is the national transport operator and you can plan your trip on their website.

🇭🇺 Where to stay at the MotoGP Hungary

The Hungarian MotoGP is one of the standout races on the 2026 calendar, and thanks to the circuit’s location near Budapest, there are plenty of accommodation options available for race weekend.

However, unlike the Hungaroring for the Formula 1, it is not right on the edges of the city. Balaton Park is around an hour and 10 minutes drive, not during a race weekend, sitting at around 93km from the centre of Budapest. That time frame will definitely increase when the MotoGP rolls into town.

The circuit still sits within reach of the city, meaning fans can choose between staying in Budapest – with its wide range of hotels, apartments, and nightlife.

Alternatively, they could opt for accommodation closer to the track for a more convenient and race-focused experience in towns such as Székesfehérvár or Veszprém.

🏕️ Camping at the MotoGP Hungary

Camping is expected to be a popular option for the Hungarian MotoGP, with sites located close to the circuit offering a more immersive race weekend atmosphere.

These campsites are typically positioned within walking distance or a short shuttle ride from the track, making them a great choice if you want to stay close to the action and avoid daily travel from Budapest.

Facilities generally include:

  • Toilets and showers
  • Designated pitches for tents and campervans
  • Basic food and drink options

Ground conditions can vary, so it’s recommended to bring a comfortable sleeping mat or air mattress.

⚠️ Camping availability is usually limited and sells out quickly, so it’s strongly advised to book well in advance of race weekend.
