Following the success of its second full season, and first as a Formula 1 support race, W Series has announced it will be returning to Grands Prix in 2022.
Following its debut year in 2019, when it supported the DTM, the series abruptly took hiatus in 2020 during the pandemic. But its return in 2021, with a support slot at eight Formula 1 Grands Prix across Europe and North America.
That partnership is set to continue in 2022, with four races in Europe, three in North America, and one in Asia.
The series will kick off in Miami, where it will be one of the first series to race at the Miami International Autodrome. The race will take place on Sunday, 8th May, before the inaugural Miami Grand Prix.
After the season opener, the series will move to Europe. There will be races in Spain (22nd May), Britain (3rd July), France (24th July), and Hungary (31st July). This means the series will race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and Circuit Paul Ricard for the very first time.
Following the European stint, W Series will enter Asia for the first time. As the Japanese Grand Prix returns to the calendar in 2022 for the first time in three years, the series will be one of the support series at Suzuka on 9 October.
The season will conclude in North America with a race in the US at Circuit of the Americas (23rd October) and Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez (30th October). The finale of the 2021 season was due to take place in Mexico, but was shifted to a second race in Texas the week before.

What to expect from W Series in 2022?
Besides the new and returning venues for 2022, there will be new and familiar faces on the W Series grid.
The top eight finishers from last season will compete in 2022. This means champion Jamie Chadwick will be joined by runner-up Alice Powell, third-placed Emma Kimilainen, Nerea Martin, Sarah Moore, Fabienne Wohlwend, Abbit Pulling and Beitske Visser.
W Series Academy’s two drivers from 2021 are also guaranteed a place on this season’s grid. Nerea Marti qualifies following her 4th-place finish, and will be joined by 9th place finisher Irina Sidorkova.
A five-day test took place in January to decide the remaining spots on the grid.
And following the introduction of teams to the sport in 2021, a teams championship will be contested in the series for the first time.
