How to get to Marina Bay Singapore

Changi (SIN) is Singapore’s main airport and serves as a major global travel hub, with more than 100 airlines flying direct from across the world. Changi is also home to the city state’s flag carrier, Singapore Airlines, which is the title sponsor of the Grand Prix.

From the UK

Regular flights fly direct to Changi from three UK airports – Heathrow (Singapore Airlines, British Airways, Qantas), Gatwick (Singapore Airlines) and Manchester (Singapore Airlines). The flight takes approximately 13 hours. Please note: no visa is required for entry into Singapore from the UK.

From Australia

Most major Australian international airports fly direct to Changi with both budget and full-service options available.

  • Sydney (Scoot, Emirates, Qantas)
  • Melbourne (Scoot, Emirates, Jetstar, Qantas, Singapore Airlines)
  • Brisbane (Emirates, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, British Airways)
  • Perth (Scoot, Emirates, Jetstar, Singapore Airlines)
  • Darwin (Singapore Airlines, Virgin Australia)

Flights from eastern Australia typically take 7-8 hours while flights from western Australia take approximately 4.5 – 5.5 hours.

From the USA

Direct flights from US cities are few and far between due to the distance. You can fly direct from San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles and New York, all with Singapore Airlines. All other flights will involve at least one stop, which includes Tokyo, Doha or one of the US airports listed above.

How to get to Marina Bay from Changi Airport

By Taxi

Singapore is a compact city and Marina Bay is just 19km / 12 miles from Changi Airport so the quickest option is to grab a taxi which will typically take around 30 minutes and cost $25-45 SGD. You’ll find taxi stands in the Arrival areas of Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 4. A ride to the city takes about 30 minutes and costs between S$25 and S$45 SGD. It’s worth bearing in mind that taxis may be in short supply during racing weekend so it may be a wiser decision to travel on the MRT.

Please note: It isn’t customary to tip taxi drivers in Singapore.

Getting the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) to Marina Bay Circuit

Singapore’s excellent MRT system is fantastic for navigating your way around town and to the circuit, running until 01:00 on race day. It’s a preferable option to walking even short distances as the humidity in Singapore can be overwhelming, especially if you have just arrived and aren’t yet acclimatised. You’ll find the MRT station downstairs in the arrivals hall of Terminal 2 where you can take a train to either Expo (Downtown line) or Tanah Merah (East West line). From there, you’ll be able to connect with trains heading to different parts of the city. Tickets vary in price depending on distance, but typically range from S$0.80 to S$2.20 SGD.

Please be aware that if you plan to use the MRT, consuming food or drinks on the trains or in the stations is prohibited, and doing so may result in a fine of up to $500 SGD.

The circuit is served by a range of different MRT stops. It’s important to find the right stop for you, depending on which gate you need to be at:
