The weekend’s action
Max Verstappen cruised to yet another victory in Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix 2023. The dominant Dutchman nipped past Lewis Hamilton on the first corner to enjoy a seventh consecutive win. For Red Bull it was the 12th Grand Prix win in a row, beating a record dating back to 1988, previously held by McLaren.
The orange team will have been relatively pleased with the race outcome too. Lando Norris fought off the other Red Bull to bag second. It is the second time the young Brit has bagged second in the last two races. Sergio Perez came in third, cementing the runaway Red Bulls lead on the points table even more.
Why go to the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix?
The Hungaroring is a historic track with fast corners that favour fearless driving and audacious overtaking. This track demands precision combined with fearless speed, meaning that drama is never far behind.
The Hungarian Grand Prix has become part of the Formula 1 furniture. This historic and iconic track has enjoyed its place in the calendar since 1986. A recent deal also confirmed that the Hungaroring will play host to Formula 1 until the year 2032.
A curious fact is that every world champion, barring Alain Prost and Nico Rosberg, has claimed victory at the Hungaroring since its the first race held there. That includes Max Verstappen, who has won the last two.
The 2022 edition was a lot more dramatic than the 2023 race. Incredibly, Verstappen went from 10th on the grid – took a spin! – and still somehow managed to claim a sensational victory.
The year before an equally exciting race saw a shock result when Esteban Ocon, leading from the third lap, bagged his first-ever Grand Prix victory. This remains his only Grand prix win to date.
