๐บ๏ธ Getting to TT Circuit Assen
TT Circuit Assen is situated just outside the city of Assen, which is located in the northeastern part of the Netherlands.
It is located immediately adjacent to the A28 motorway which provides direct links to major cities like Groningen (38km) to the north and Zwolle (5km) to the south.
โ๏ธ Travelling by plane to TT Circuit Assen
The nearest airport to the circuit is Groningen Airport Eelde (GRQ), which is situated just 20km away. However, this is a very small regional airport that operates a minimal number of international flights, making it unviable for the vast majority MotoGP fans situated outside of the Netherlands.
Instead, many elect to travel to Amsterdam Schipol (AMS), before either driving or catching a train to the circuit. Both onward travel options from the airport take around 2 hours.
Schipol is one of the most well-connected airports in Europe, providing direct flights to an array of international destinations.
๐ Getting to TT Circuit Assen by bus
The regional buses around Assen are operated by Qbuzz. The company offers routes from key nearby locations such as Groningen, Emmen and Drachten. You can view the timetable here.
The bus station for the circuit is called Bushalte TT-Circuit, Assen and is located on the north side of the venue.
On Grand Prix weekend Shuttle buses also run between Assen NS railway station and the Noordlus entrance of the circuit.
๐ก Tips for bus travel
- Expect buses to be busy on race day
- Allow extra time, especially in the morning
- Follow event signage – temporary shuttle routes are usually well marked
๐ This is one of the most efficient ways to avoid traffic and parking issues.
๐ Getting to TT Circuit Assen by train
The nearest railway station to the TT Circuit Assen is Assen NS, located just a short distance from the circuit. It is well connected to major Dutch cities including Amsterdam, Utrecht and Groningen.
To travel by train, tickets can be purchased easily via the Dutch Railways (NS) website or mobile app, where you can plan your journey and download an e-ticket directly to your phone. Alternatively, tickets are available from vending machines or service desks at train stations across the Netherlands.
For added convenience, regular travellers can use an OV-chipkaart, a contactless smart card that works across trains, buses, trams and metro services, allowing seamless travel throughout the country.
As previously mentioned, Shuttle Buses run from Assen NS station to the circuit on race weekend.
๐ Getting to TT Circuit Assen by car
Driving to TT Circuit Assen is one of the most convenient ways to reach the track.
From the city centre, the journey should take around 10-15 minutes, with the circuit accessed southbound via the A28 highway. Travellers should take exit 31A (Assen Zuid).
โ ๏ธ During a MotoGP weekend, traffic can be significantly heavier than normal – especially on the day of the race – so it is recommended that you account for this when setting off.
๐ ฟ๏ธ Parking at TT Circuit Assen
Parking at TT Circuit Assen is generally free, abundant, and conveniently located near the A28 motorway (exits 31A or 32).
Paved lots exist for cars, particularly near the Noordlus entrance, along with dedicated areas for motorcycles and bicycles.
We recommend that you arrive early (around 9 am) to avoid heavy traffic congestion on race days.
๐ฆ Alternative option
- Some fans choose to park in Assen city centre before using public transport or taxis to reach the circuit.
๐ This can help avoid the worst of the post-race traffic.
๐ Taxi to TT Circuit Assen
Taking a taxi or ride-hailing service is a convenient way to reach the circuit from Assen city centre.
- Estimated cost: โฌ10โโฌ20 (depending on distance and demand)
- Travel time: ~10โ15 minutes from Assen station or town centre (longer on race weekend)
- Best for: convenience, small groups, or avoiding shuttle queues
Ride-hailing options are more limited in Assen than in larger cities, with Uber not widely available. However, Bolt and local taxi services do operate in the area. Pre-booking these services where possible is recommended due to the busy nature of race weekend.
