What is F1 Academy?
F1 Academy is an all-female single-seater racing championship launched by Formula 1 in 2023. The series was created to develop and prepare young female drivers for progression up the motorsport ladder, with the ultimate goal of increasing female representation at higher levels such as Formula 3, Formula 2 and potentially Formula 1.
How does F1 Academy Work?
The series runs a two-race weekend format, with qualifying deciding the grid for both races but with a twist.
Race 1 is a reverse grid race. The top eight drivers from qualifying are flipped, meaning the driver who qualifies eighth starts on pole, while the polesitter lines up eighth. Everyone else starts where they qualified. Points are awarded to the top eight finishers, with one extra point for the fastest lap among those top eight.
Race 2 follows a traditional format. The grid is set by each driver’s fastest qualifying lap, with the quickest driver starting from pole position. Points are awarded to the top ten finishers, plus one point for the fastest lap (within the top ten) and two points for pole position.
Who won F1 Academy in 2025?
The 2025 drivers’ title was won by Doriane Pin, who secured the championship after a standout campaign across the expanded 18-car grid.
In the teams’ standings, Prema Racing claimed the Teams’ Championship, continuing their strong record in junior single-seater competition and underlining their dominance throughout the season.
Are F1 Academy tickets included in Formula 1 Grand Prix tickets?
Yes – when the series is part of a Grand Prix weekend, its races are included in a standard Formula 1 ticket.
Like fellow support series Formula 2 and Formula 3, F1 Academy runs alongside selected F1 events throughout the season. That means fans who purchase a three-day Grand Prix ticket – or a single-day ticket covering race sessions – can watch F1 Academy at no additional cost.
