Why go to the 2026 Barcelona F1 Grand Prix
There are so many reasons to take a trip to Barcelona – read all about them below, but on-track, there are few races that draw the crowds quite like the Spanish Grand Prix.
Two homegrown drivers are likely to be on the grid in 2026. Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin and Carlos Sainz of Williams, will return home to race under the Spanish sun. Theses constructors haven’t been in contention for podium places in recent year but, as the recent seasons have shown, a lot can change in a year in Formula 1.

Oscar Piastri won the 2025 edition as McLaren closed out a 1-2. Lewis Hamilton, arguably the greatest Formula 1 driver in history failed to make the podium, but Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc took third.
Hamilton remains the driver with the most Spanish F1 Grand Prix wins with six (joint with Michael Schumacher) and Ferrari is the constructor with the most wins at 12.
Barcelona’s future remains uncertain as Formula 1 continue the trend towards street races. It was announced that Madrid would take on the mantel of Spanish Grand Prix from 2026. This may be one of the last chances to be at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Visit Barcelona
The draw of this magical city is one of the main reasons that we sell out of Spanish Grand Prix tickets year after year.
June is also the best time to enjoy Barcelona. The sizzling summer heat is typically still a few weeks away, and temperatures are in the mid 20s. Gentle sunshine is the ideal way to explore the capital of Catalonia.
The most famous street in the city is Las Ramblas, and you can walk all the way down it to the harbour and the beach. There aren’t too many city breaks that can offer you a beach holiday too!

One hidden gem is El Antic Teatre (above), an atmospheric outside bar space in the old town. Another is Mirador de Joan Sales, a viewing point looking over the city with spectacular views. More and more of these viewpoints are being cordoned off to charge tourists entry. This spot remains one of the few free vantage points – for now.
Practise your Spanish – or Catalan!
Getting immersed in the renowned bar and tapas culture in southern Europe is the ideal way to practise your Spanish with the locals. Or if you want to go a step further, why not try Catalan? The language shares a lot of common ground with Italian and French as well as Spanish. It is widely spoken in Barcelona and the surrounding area.
Learning a few Catalan phrases, such as bon dia (good day/morning), el meu nom es… (my name is…) or molt bé (very good), will earn you extra brownie points with the proud locals.
This part of the Mediterranean also boasts the best diet on the planet. Rich in fresh fruit and vegetables, seafood, cured meats and wine, it’s no wonder Spaniards are ranked among the top 10 countries in the world for longevity.
